Lessons Learned from Hurricane Katrina, Then and Now

The panel will focus on how disaster legal services have shifted from Hurricane Katrina to the current trend of proactive disaster legal services. Laura Tuggle and Jimmy Fry will share their experiences and lessons learned as attorneys helping victims during Hurricane Katrina. Lisa Gavin and Shirley Peng will then share their experiences as project managers of their new disaster relief programs at Iowa Legal Aid and Legal Aid of Nebraska. John Eidelman, the senior program counsel at LSC, will facilitate the conversation as well as provide input from the LSC’s point-of-view on how disaster relief legal services have shifted in the past 10 years.
